Sisters Catherine Eleanor and Allison Margaret are the 2 women who make up the New York musical duo known as The Pierces. Heavily influenced by early exposure to the music of Joni Mitchell and Simon & Garfunkel, The Pierces' music uses instruments like the sitar, violin, accordion and calliope as the melody behind thoughtful, and often satirical lyrics that explore a variety of topics. The Pierces released their self titled debut album in 2000, but did not gain much recognition in the music world until the release of their 2005 Light of the Moon album. The Pierces' next two albums, Thirteen Tales of Love and Revenge and You & I gained these talented musicians even further recognition and can be heard on television shows like Gossip Girl, Charmed and Ghost Whisperer. The Pierces have played in concert with the enormously popular band Coldplay, and they even made an appearance at the 2011 Glastonbury Festival.
