Kelly Clarkson is the first American Idol. She won the title after the series premiered in 2002 when she first debuted her hit single "A Moment Like This." This single broke a record set by the Beatles' for making the biggest leap on the top 40 list to number one up from 52. Since then she has broken her record with the hit single "My Life Would Suck Without You" off of her 4th album in 2009, "All I Ever Wanted."

Clarkson is easily the most well known and successful winner of American Idol. After dealing with the mandated circus of the American Idol concert tour and festival, she was ready to strike out on her own with a edgier rock album titled "Breakaway" which sold 12 million copies.

Clarkson has won multiple Grammies and MTV Music Video Awards during her career. So far, Clarkson has released 5 albums with the latest album titled, "Stronger," that dropped in late October. She continues to lead the path for the lost idols of America with her down to earth approach to her music career. Recently, Clarkson has dabbled in the country music arena appearing on the CMT awards and singing duets with Reba McCintire. At heart, she is just a small town girl from Texas who has taken control of her commercialized image and made it her own.
